Black Jewell

The kernel

Black Jewell is a black-hulled heirloom out of Columbus, Indiana. The unpopped kernels look like polished beads. After the pop you get a white flake with dark flecks, a slightly nutty smell, and a hull that is thinner than grocery yellow. It is not a dessert brand. It is a variety with a farm behind it.

The pot

Heirloom here is not a mood board. The company has spent years treating this corn as a crop, not a seasonal SKU.
