What holds

  • How microwave popcorn became a pantry default
  • Still on Amazon and grocery endcaps

What doesn't

  • Tests we opened keep putting it last
  • Not a variety

The kernel

ACT II is the value microwave Conagra still sells next to Orville. Amazon microwave search led with Xtreme Butter and the plain Butter 24-pack. Daily Herald / Washington Post tasters called the butter bag bland and cardboard. Eat This found an odd aftertaste on Extreme Butter.

The pot

The pot is a cheap bag in a cheap oven. Shelf-stable Act II dates to the mid-1980s under Golden Valley Microwave Foods. Conagra owns the name now. The kernel is not the point. The price is.

Hulls

Hulls are present, the way commodity yellow is present. Nobody is selling this as a dental intermission fix. It is the bag you grab when the other box costs more.

Company

The cheap microwave. Last in the WaPo/Daily Herald butter lineup.

Founder
Golden Valley Microwave Foods; bag work associated with James Watkins in later histories. Treat that as secondary until a primary page is opened.
Since
Act I 1981; Act II shelf-stable 1984.
Parent
Conagra Brands (NYSE: CAG). Conagra lists ACT II among its brands.
